Abdominoplasty or Tummy Tuck  is a surgical procedure designed to flatten a protruding abdomen by tightening the muscles in the abdominal wall, removing excess fatty tissue and skin.

Tummy Tucks are performed on an on an outpatient basis, and under local anesthesia and intravenous sedation or general anesthesia. A full tummy tuck involves an incision around the navel and another that runs almost from hip to hip. Your an entire abdominal wall is tightened with sutures, and the excess skin and fat are removed.

For those with severe laxity, a FULL TUMMY TUCK may be their only solution. There are three basic techniques used to flatten the protuberant abdomen. A MINI TUMMY TUCK is right for patients whose laxity and excess skin lies below the navel. This procedure is usually performed in conjunction with a liposuction of the upper abdomen and the flank areas. No incision made around the navel, however, there will still be sutures tightening the abdominal wall.

Recovery from Tummy Tuck involves bed rest for the first day. Drains may be placed for up to four or five days to reduce inflammation and decrease fluid accumulation.

Strenuous activities such as weightlifting should be avoided. You will be required to wear snug, elastic dressing, girdle or body stocking over the treated area to help to heal. Full recovery may take up to three weeks, and sutures will be removed after about two weeks.
